All students must earn a minimum of twenty-four (24) credits in order to graduate. All students graduating from ASMSA must meet the graduation requirements set by the State of Arkansas for a high school diploma as well as the requirements set by ASMSA. Those requirements for the Class of 2008 and the Class of 2009 are as follows:
ENGLISH
Two (2) credits - successful completion of Junior English Composition and Senior English Composition.
MATHEMATICS
Minimum of two (2) credits to include successful completion of one-half (½) credit of calculus. Students must be enrolled in a mathematics course each semester.
SCIENCE
Minimum of two (2) credits in biology, chemistry, or physics. One (1) credit of physics must be completed at ASMSA. Students must be enrolled in a science course each semester.
COMPUTER SCIENCE
One-half (½) credit must be completed at ASMSA.
FOCUS AREA
One (1) additional credit in mathematics, science, or one-half (½) additional credits in computer science is required to satisfy the focus requirement.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Specific requirements depend upon the courses a student has previously completed to include one (1) credit of American History, one (1) credit of World History, and one other credit, of which one-half (½) credit must be Civics or Government.
RTT
One-half (½) credit of Research Through Technology is required of all juniors and may be counted toward half of the focus credit in mathematics or science, but not in computer science.
CS-RTT
Satisfies ASMSA RTT requirement and may count towards computer science focus.
FIRM
One and one-half credits (three semesters) of Fundamentals in Research Methods are required. One-half (½) credit of general science will be given after successful completion of the junior year; one (1) credit after successful completion of the senior year. FIRM will not count toward a science focus but will be figured into the GPA for general science courses taken at ASMSA.
The following courses are required for graduation and are offered at ASMSA, but may be taken in grades 9 and 10:
- Foreign Language - 2 credits
- Health and Safety - ½ credit
- Arts - ½ credit
- Oral Communication - ½ credit
- Physical Education - ½ credit
All courses taken at ASMSA must be passed with a minimum grade of 60. Regardless of academic standing, a student will be academically withdrawn and sent back to his/her home school if he/she receives a grade below 60 in any one class at the end of any semester at ASMSA.
