ACADEMIC COUNSELOR
The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts seeks a qualified, experienced, responsible, highly-motivated person to take on the duties of academic counselor. The primary role of this person will be to provide academic guidance to a diverse student population in conjunction with another counselor. Other duties include: assisting students with course selection and registration; coordinating with parents and teachers; advising students on the college application process, scholarships, and financial aid; writing student recommendations; and administering standardized tests, including Advanced Placement, End of Course exams, and PSAT/NMSQT.

ASMSA is a selective, residential public high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors, located in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a Masters degree in Counseling or related field, or a Masters degree with state certification in Counseling. A minimum of five years experience in academic counseling at the high school or college/university level. Strong written and oral communication skills, an attention to detail, and an ability to work as part of a team are a necessity.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of standardized testing administration; familiarity with college admissions procedures, scholarships, and financial aid; experience working with gifted high school students; proficiency in writing letters of recommendation.

Salary and Benefits: 10-month position, salary commensurate with experience, benefits package included. Review of applicants will begin immediately with an expected start date of August 1, 2009.

RESIDENTIAL MENTOR
The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts, a division of the University of Arkansas, is a two-year residential high school for students gifted in mathematics, sciences and the arts. ASMSA is now hiring Residential Mentors for the 2008-2009 academic year, a ten-month position providing room and board in addition to salary, which begins at $17,000 per year, and includes a tuition discount at UA System schools. Minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
