The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts Step Team won second place in the girls division of the 8th Annual Southwest Stepshow in November.
The completion was held Nov. 22 at Garland High School in Garland, Texas. Ten teams from Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas competed in the competition. It was the first competition of the year for the team.
Team members included seniors Jodah Gibson of Mountain View, Jakyra Scaife of Marion, Maya Fleming-Vincent of Barton and Andrew O’Neil of Flippin and junior Jessica Maruri of Van Buren.
The team earned a $150 award and trophy for its 10-minute performance.
“I am more than proud of this team as they represented Arkansas well,” said Valerie Carpenter, the team sponsor and interim director of admissions for ASMSA. She said the team is considering participating in another competition in March in Arlington, Texas.
