Students selected for All-Region Band

Five students from Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts auditioned and were selected to be members of the All-Region III Band. 

The students selected were: Amelia Humphrey, SinPing Ku, Kaia Duke, Nora Bouzihay and Victoria Jones. Humphrey plays the bassoon and made first band, second chair. Ku plays the clarinet and made second band, 15th chair. Duke plays the French horn and made first band, fifth chair. Bouzihay plays the trumpet and made second band, 12th chair. Jones plays the tenor saxophone and was named an alternate.

The students will attend a two-day clinic Jan. 21 and 22 at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy. The clinic will culminate in a free concert for the public at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Lake Hamilton High School.

Humphrey and Duke also qualified to audition for All-State band on Feb. 5 at University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Additionally, Shinae Lee qualified last fall to audition for the All-State Orchestra, also on Feb. 5. Most colleges and universities in Arkansas offer All-State Band members full-tuition scholarships.

The ASMSA band is under the direction of Mary Alice Chambers.
