We are excited that you are taking the first step in becoming a part of our community of learning at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts.

The application for students wishing to attend ASMSA beginning Fall 2025 will open on October 1.

The application process uses an online system called Blackbaud. When you begin the process, please pay careful attention to whether you are being asked to provide candidate or parent information.

If you have questions at any point in the process, please contact our office at  admissions@asmsa.org.

Instructions for the Candidate

The student portions of the Online Application include biographic data, information on academic and community involvement, test scores, and an essay response. You are able to save progress on the application and return again at a later time for completion and submission.

Essay Prompt

The essay is an important component of the admissions process that allows the ASMSA team of reviewers to learn more about your academic capacity, maturity, creativity, critical reasoning, and overall writing abilities.  Most of all, your essay will help us get to know you as an individual.  Essay answers will be submitted as part of the application process in the application portal.

Essay Prompt for Fall 2025 admissions application:

ASMSA is a community of academically and artistically motivated young people from throughout the state.  Why do you want to be a part of the ASMSA community of learning?  What do you hope to gain from the ASMSA experience?  How do you plan to contribute to the ASMSA community through your strengths, talents, and experiences?

Online Recommendation Forms

ASMSA's application process requires the submission of online forms by the candidate's current teachers and counselor.  The candidate is able to email each of these forms to the appropriate individual through the online application portal.  Each form should require less than ten minutes to complete.

Candidates must request one recommendation from a high school educator who has knowledge of the applicant’s academic ability, capacity for growth, and personal integrity. They must also request a school discipline and attendance form to be completed by the candidate's current counselor or principal.  Students interested in applying to the Visual Arts and Design Program of Distinction (Art P.O.D.) are requested to submit a recommendation from an educator with knowledge of the candidate’s aptitude for art.

Please ensure you provide these individuals with sufficient notice so that their portions of the application can be completed in a timely manner.

We appreciate the time and insights of these educators as we work together to ensure Arkansas students receive appropriately challenging learning opportunities.

Uploading Student's Transcript and ACT Score Report

ASMSA's application process requires the submission of the candidate's transcript, including the  semester of the current school year.  At the start of the  the candidate will be able to email instructions for uploading the transcript to their school counselor through the online application portal.

Candidates must also submit an ACT or SAT score report to ASMSA (8112) and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (0122).  If you have not already registered for an ACT exam, visit ACT.org to view upcoming test dates and registration information.  Scores must be submitted by March 1, 2025; as such, we recommend that you take the ACT no later than February 2025.
