Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts commencement will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at Summit Arena in the Hot Springs Convention Center. James McKinney, a 2007 graduate of ASMSA, will present the commencement address.
Twenty-one students from Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts were selected to attend Arkansas Governor’s School, which will be held June 10 – July 7 at Hendrix College in Conway.
Two ASMSA alumni, Brett Clark (2009) and Natasha Sra (2011), are featured in a video about the new Nanotechnology Sciences Center, which opened May 2 on the UALR campus. The center provides research facilities for scientists and students to explore the interface between nanomaterials, plant biology, and mammalian biology.
The ASMSA Quiz Bowl team won the 7A class of the Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl Association tournament held April 28. This is the school’s first-ever state quiz bowl championship win. ASMSA defeated Conway 310-230 in the final round of the tournament, which was broadcast from the AETN studios in Conway.
After a nationwide search, three people were selected as finalists for the director’s position at Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts.
ASMSA will host a free Science and Engineering Institute Saturday, May 5 giving students in grades 6-10 the opportunity to learn about musical acoustics, computer programming and chemistry. The classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on the ASMSA campus in downtown Hot Springs.
