Twenty-two students from ASMSA competed in the state Future Business Leaders of America conference, April 4-5 in Little Rock. According to FBLA advisor Carl Frank, this is the largest number of state qualifiers ASMSA has had in a single year.
Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students participating in the State Foreign Language Festival placed third and received a distinguished rating in the French Talent category.
Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students took two of the top prizes in the state Science Fair and the top three prizes in the state Junior Academy of Sciences competition. The school also won the Overall Team award and the Class 7A Team award at the state Science Fair, which was held April 1-2 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
Students from Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts participated in the 2011 University of Arkansas High School Programming Contest on March 12 at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The contest is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering and sponsored by the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery and by Acxiom.
ASMSA held its annual Science Fair and Senior Research Symposium (SRS) March 2-4. All seniors must complete a Science Fair or SRS project as part of their graduation requirements. In addition to being judged on their projects, the students participated in a Junior Academy competition, which is a 10-minute oral presentation about their projects.

ASMSA students Anveshi Guha and Ted Stiritz placed first in the Advanced Spanish Speaking competition at the District Foreign Language Festival held Feb. 19 at historic Central High School in Little Rock.
Melanie Nichols, the former dean of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts, has established a scholarship for mathematics students planning to attend a four-year college or university.
