The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA), a campus of the University of Arkansas System, invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a twelve-month, full-time opening as Director of Finance beginning no later than December 1, 2024.
In brief, ASMSA is tasked with providing extraordinary opportunities for a diverse group of students. Established by the General Assembly in 1991 as a public, residential high school to serve talented and motivated Arkansas students from throughout the state as a school of choice, ASMSA—located in historic downtown Hot Springs and adjacent to Hot Springs National Park—is one of only 17 public residential high schools in the United States specializing in the education of students with an interest in advanced careers in math and science as well as a passion for and creativity within studio, performing, language, and digital arts. ASMSA offers more than 70 courses for college credit, and all students earn an average of 50 hours of college credit while finishing high school. Recent graduates achieved an average ACT composite score of 30. Newsweek, The Daily Beast, and the Washington Post have ranked ASMSA among the nation’s “Top 25” high schools. Niche.com has named ASMSA as Arkansas’s top public high school as well as among the “Top 50” nationally.
The Director of Finance has financial oversight into all fiscal processes for the institution including, but not limited to, accounts payable, purchasing, travel, cash management, banking, grants, capital projects, annual budgets, financial reports, and annual audits. Due to the size and nature of ASMSA, the director will be actively involved in day-to-day transactional work as a member of the Finance team.
The director also serves as campus administrator for the maintenance and janitorial departments, working with unit managers to ensure continuous campus operations and campus planning for future projects.
As a member of the campus leadership team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in working with campus stakeholders on financial matters and should have experience in organizational budgeting, capital project development, and strategic planning. The Director of Finance should also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, supervisory and project management skills, the ability to analyze and problem-solve financial information, advanced knowledge of computer software systems, organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple projects, tasks and deadlines, and a clear commitment to the support of colleagues throughout campus.
A Master’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field; or currently pursuing an MBA with
a minimum of five years experience in related areas, and at least two years experience in a supervisory role is required. Experience with Workday, higher education and state finance rules and regulations, and CPA certification is preferred.

The Director of Human Resources and Campus Culture has the overall responsibility for all Human Resources processes for the institution including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding, payroll and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluations, performance evaluation, professional development, and compliance. As a member of the campus leadership team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in working with campus stakeholders on institutional and human capital management matters and assist the director with communications and campus initiatives.
The Director of Human Resources and Campus Culture should also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations, the ability to analyze, critically think, and problem-solve information and resolutions, advanced knowledge of computer software systems, organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple projects, tasks and deadlines, and a clear commitment to the support of colleagues throughout campus.
A Master’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field, and a minimum of five years experience in human resources is required. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered. Experience in higher education, state organizations, Workday HCM, and SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is preferred.
