Ten Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts students earned recognition in the recent Arkansas Young Artists Association Competition.
The Arkansas Young Artist Association is the largest organization of high school visual arts students in the state. Its mission is to encourage and support the visual arts across the state to all high school students through professional speakers, competitions, exhibition and scholarship.
Each spring, the organization holds a convention and competition, which is an officially sanctioned event by the Arkansas Activities Association. This year’s competition and convention were held virtually on April 21. The following ASMSA students received awards for their competition entries:
- Senior Catherine Kwon of Little Rock: first place in Expressive Oils, first place in Realistic Watercolor, first place in Mixed Media Low Relief (Expressive), and honorable mention Portrait (Expressive).
- Senior Nina Thomas of Hot Springs: First place Mixed Media 2D (Abstract/Nonobjective) and honorable mention, Cut Paper/Collage.
- Junior Skylar Boone of Benton: First place in Portrait (Abstract).
- Junior Adam Kaderly of Farmington: Second place in First Year Collage/Mixed Media and fourth place in Mixed Media 2D (Abstract).
- Junior Winnie Smith of Vandervoort: Second place in Pen/Ink (Realistic) and honorable mention, Digital Art-Computer Generated no photography or photos used.
- Senior Lilli Hickman of Omaha: Third place in Mixed Media 2D (Realistic).
- Junior Chelsie Marquez of Waldron: Third place in Mixed Media 2D (Expressive).
- Junior Eureka Smith of Hot Springs: Third place in First Year Collage/Mixed Media and honorable mention in First Year Painting.
- Junior Nina Niemotka of Sherwood: Third place in Colored Pencil (Abstract) and honorable mention in First Year Collage/Mixed Media.
- Senior Madison Mainer of Ozark: Fourth place in Pen/Ink (Realistic).
