Five students at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts have been named finalists for College Match Scholarship through the QuestBridge National College Match program.
QuestBridge is a nonprofit program that matches high school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite facing economic challenges with opportunities for admission and full scholarships to 35 top colleges and universities. The students were selected as finalists based on their academic, financial and extracurricular credentials.
Out of 11,654 applications, 4,180 students (about 36 percent of the applicants) were selected as finalists for the College Match Scholarship, which covers tuition, room and board, and other expenses for all four years of college. Results of the 2014 College Match Scholarship program will be announced on Dec. 1. In 2013, 440 finalists were awarded the scholarship.
ASMSA seniors named QuestBridge finalists are:
• Christina Choh of Little Rock, daughter of Jung and Isaac Choh;
• Jiya Janowitz of Jasper, son of Randy Janowitz;
• Grishma Patel of Little Rock, daughter of Alpa and Kamlesh Patel;
• Lizzie Sutherland of Mena, daughter of Liz and Don Mattucks and Eric Sutherland; and
• Joseph Zhang of Little Rock, son of Linda Han.
“The QuestBridge scholarship finalists at ASMSA are highly motivated students who have worked diligently to attain academic success,” said Jackie Vaughn, an academic counselor at the school. “However, their family finances do not allow them to afford the education to which they are undeniably worthy. These students are deserving of any assistance available to them. Recognition through QuestBridge is a great opportunity for these students.”
QuestBridge’s 35 scholarship partners include institutions such as MIT, University of Notre Dame, Princeton University, Vanderbilt University and Yale University. To learn more about QuestBridge, visit www.questbridge.org.
