Two artists will visit, teach and speak at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts over the next few days.
Aaron Collier, a professor of painting and drawing at Tulane University in New Orleans, will visit campus Thursday, April 28, and Friday, April 29. Collier is a multimedia artist who works with paint, drawing and collage media.
His work will be featured in the ASMSA Art Gallery on Thursday and Friday. Collier will teach ASMSA students during art classes both days. There will be an artist talk and reception in the ASMSA art studio from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
On Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4, artist Paul Callahan will visit campus. Callahan is a multimedia designer working in both traditional hand methods and digital fabrication techniques. His artwork will be on exhibit in the ASMSA Art Gallery those days.
On Tuesday May 3, Callahan will be giving woodworking demos in the ASMSA woodshop at a time to be determined. He also will give an artist talk at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Callahan will teach ASMSA art classes on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The artists’ visits are funded through a grant from the Windgate Charitable Foundation. ASMSA received a $50,000 grant to increase its arts education curriculum in 2015. One of the methods to do so is to expose ASMSA students to artists through visits to campus.
The artists’ talks are open to the public. To attend the talks, visitors must check in at the Administration Building lobby at 200 Whittington Ave.
