ASMSA to host West Central Regional Science Fair open house on Feb. 22
The West Central Regional Science Fair will hold an open house and public viewing session on Feb. 22 in the Oaklawn Foundation Community Center in the new Creativity and Innovation Complex on the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts campus.
An open house to celebrate the opening of the new academic building will be held for the public from 1 to 3 p.m., during which student competitors will be present with their project boards. The public may also view the competition boards from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the open house.
The $4.7 million Creativity and Innovation Complex opened at the end of January. The 21,000-square-foot facility is the first new classroom building in the school’s 25-year history. In addition to the community center, the CIC also houses the Dan Fredinburg Technology Center, computer science classrooms, a digital arts lab, entrepreneurship lab, a Maker Space, the Morris Rehearsal Studio for band, network infrastructure, admissions office, and faculty and staff offices throughout.
The West Central Regional Science Fair is comprised of projects by ASMSA students. Competitors who finish in the top three of their respective categories qualify for the Arkansas State Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held March 29-30 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. ASMSA has won the state science fair title for six years in a row.
