The ASMSA Wind Ensemble presented the 16th Annual Spring Concert May 10 in the ASMSA Dining Hall. The theme was Just Some Old Time Rock n’ Roll and selections included “Louie Louie”, “Born to Be Wild”, “Evil Ways” and “Old Time Rock and Roll.”
This was the last concert for the ASMSA seniors Ryan Medlock (seated), Shinae Lee, Harry Lah, Kaia Duke, Nora Bouzihay and Amelia Humphrey.
Kaia has been awarded a band scholarship to Hendrix College. Amelia received band scholarship offers from University of Central Arkansas and Centenary College in Shreveport, La.; she will attend the UCA Honors College.
ASMSA Band members received the following honors during the 2010-11 school year:
Shinae Lee made All-Region Orchestra and was concertmaster of the 2011 All-State Orchestra. She is currently second chair violin in the Arkansas Youth Symphony. She also played a violin solo at the region and state solo and ensemble competitions in April 2011, making a superior rating in both performances.
Becky Rainwater, Kailey Fogo, and Sin Ping Ku made a superior rating (I) on a clarinet trio at region in April 2011, but were unable to attend the state competition due to the illness of one member of the trio.
Amelia Humphrey made a superior rating (I) on a bassoon solo at the region and state competitions in April 2011.
Becky Rainwater earned a medal for an excellent (II) clarinet solo at region solo and ensemble.
Nora Bouzihay earned a medal for a superior (I) trumpet solo at the region solo and ensemble competition.
Sin Ping Ku, Nora Bouzihay, Kaia Duke, Victoria Jones, and Amelia Humphrey qualified for All-Region Band in January.
Kaia Duke, Shinae Lee, and Amelia Humphrey qualified to audition for All-State in February.
Kaia Duke and Nora Bouzihay represented ASMSA in the Festival of Winds Honor Band at Hendrix on May 7.
The ASMSA band is under the direction of Mary Alice Chambers.
