Students chosen to participate in Governor’s Mansion exhibit

Four Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students have been chosen to participate in  the 2022 Governor’s Young Artist Exhibit.

The Governor’s Young Artist Exhibit features works by Arkansas high school students who entered the Governor’s Young Artist Competition. Students’ works selected for recognition in the competition will be on exhibit at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion in April. Almost 300 pieces were entered in the competition, and around 60 were selected for the exhibition. An awards reception at the Governor’s Mansion is set for April 23.

The four students and their works that were selected for the exhibition are:

  • Danielle Luyet, a senior from Conway, “Industrial Arkansas;”
  • Lillian Slaton, a senior from Benton, “Pawee’s Prize;”
  • Winnie Smith, a senior from Vandervort, “Little Missouri Falls;” and
  • Ella Suffren, a senior from Hot Springs, “Race Day at Oaklawn.”

The theme for this year’s competition was “Arkansas: The Land of Golden Opportunity.” The theme celebrates the state of Arkansas and the many reasons it is a wonderful place to live. Students were asked to consider things that make the state special and to choose a subject that showcased Arkansas’ many endearing qualities: its natural beauty, seasons, climate, people, history, etc.
