Several Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students earned recognition at the recent 2023 FBLA State Conference including a few who qualified for this year’s national conference.
Sixteen ASMSA students attended the conference which was held April 3-4 in Little Rock. Participants competed in various business-related contests. The events are either an objective subject test, a performance/product event or a combination of both a test and performance/product event. Students qualified for the state competition at the District IV Spring Conference earlier this year. Winners were announced at the Arkansas State FBLA Leadership Awards Ceremony was held on April 4.
Students who earned recognition included:
- Evan Saephanh-Carrisalez, a junior from Wiseman, ninth place, Business Calculations;
- Vicky Zhu, a senior from El Dorado, fifth place, Computer Problem Solving;
- Charis Xiong, a senior from White Hall, fifth place, Data Analysis;
- Kiley Barton, a senior from Sims, third place, Economics;
- Madison Arenaz, a senior from Piggot, sixth place, Hospitality and Event Management;
- Karilynn Arellano, fourth place, Introduction to FBLA;
- Sarah Pham, a sophomore from Hot Springs, first place, Introduction to Financial Math;
- Abigail Finney, a senior from Pocahontas, third place, Job Interview;
- Grayson Jackson, a junior from Benton, third place, Job Interview;
- Talana Small, a senior from White Hall, first place, Business Financial Plan; and
- Team of Meera Patel, a sophomore from Hot Springs, and Kelvin Orduna, a sophomore from Huntsville, first place, Website Design.
Participants who placed fourth or higher in their individual categories qualified to compete at the FBLA National Conference which will be held June 25-July 1 in Atlanta, Ga.
Finney also completed her term as District IV FBLA vice president for the 2022-23 academic year.
