Students earn recognition at international relations conferences

Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students earned recognition at two events that provide participants opportunities to learn leadership skills as well as public speaking, problem solving and organizational skills.

 

ASMSA students participated in both the Arkansas High School Model Arab League and Arkansas Model United Nations conferences recently. Participants are selected to represent countries as if they were delegates from those nations in each event.

The high school Model Arab League conference was held March 8-9 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Students who earned recognition included:

  • Lycci Pan, Distinguished Delegate for Lebanon;
  • Katherine Quintanilla, Chair’s Choice of Egypt;
  • Paul Jonsek, Chair’s Choice for Egypt;
  • Alan Ye, Distinguished Delegate for Egypt;
  • Maddox Jessup, Chair’s Choice for Lebanon; and
  • Michaela Stevens, Distinguished Delegate for Lebaon.

The Arkansas Model United Nations conference was held in November at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. ASMSA students who earned recognition at the conference were:

  • Michaela Stevens, elected as a Rapporteur and named Honorable Mention Outstanding Delegate representing Kazakhstan on the Human Rights Council;
  • Lola Tate, Outstanding Delegate representing Guatemala on the Economic and Social Council;
  • Tristan Henson, Honorable Mention Outstanding Delegate representing Libya on the Economic and Social Council;
  • Maddox Jessup, Honorable Mention Outstanding Delegate representing India on the Human Rights Council; and
  • Paul Jonsek, Honorable Mention Outstanding Delegate representing Bolivia on the Economic and Financial Committee.
