Three ASMSA seniors were recently honored for their academic achievements.
The Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce and Weyerhaeuser Company presented the annual Academic Excellence Awards to the top five percent of Garland County seniors at a banquet April 3 at Hot Springs Country Club. ASMSA students receiving awards were Nicole Hinman, Zachary Lovin, and Kate Trubitt.
Ray Owen Jr. of Hot Springs began the annual event in 1986 while he was serving on the education committee for the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce. Weyerhaeuser Company has been the presenting sponsor since 2006.
Sara Schreiner Kendall, Weyerhaeuser’s vice president for corporate affairs and sustainability, was the guest speaker. Kendall and Chamber President/CEO David Byerly presented the awards.
Nicole Hinman of Clarksville is a member of FBLA, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Interact and the glowstringing club. She loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking and camping. Nicole is the daughter of James and Bertha Hinman. She plans to attend Cornell University and major in chemical engineering.
Zach Lovin of Quitman is a member of FBLA and Beta Club and participates in botball, BEST robotics, glowstringing and swing dance. He enjoys reading and computer gaming. Zach is the son of Dale and Lisa Lovin. He plans to major in computer science.
Kate Trubitt of Bismarck is the Astronomy Club president, a member of Beta Club and National Honor Society. She enjoys peer mentoring and tutoring in science. Kate is the daughter of Brian and Mary Beth Trubitt. She plans to major in biology at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
